I have not had a bunch of time to craft, but am starting to get back in the groove again. I recently started a new shawl. Will have to see how far I get. This pattern is only a chart without any other instructions, so it is a little bit of a learning process for me. Picture is not the best, but I am enjoying the process.
I finally finished my first pair of socks. They are not perfect, but I did enjoy making them and would like to make more. I want to go buy bunches of yarn for socks. I have worn the socks a few times and have an idea on what I would do differently next time. These are worsted weight in an acrylic yarn that I inherited quite a few years ago. I believe I would be happier with a lighter weight wool or at least have the sole of the sock worked in stockinette instead of a pattern. The bottoms of my feet seem to be sensitive to all the bumps. It might be awhile until I try again. There is a whole room full of boxes of unfinished projects and my goal is to finish some of those. Now to go find the next UFO and all the supplies I need to finish it.
I had planned on trying to work on one thing at a time, but I got distracted. I still plan to finish the pair of socks I was knitting, it just might take awhile to get back to them. In the meantime I started and finished a crochet shawl. This is a pattern from Ravelry called the Miya Shawl. I ran out of yarn, so it’s not as large as I would have liked. It still is very pretty and sits nicely on the shoulders.
I had started this blog to kick start my creative life, but then real life got in the way and I haven’t kept up with things. Recently, I started listening to and watching crafting podcasts on my mp3 player on my commutes to and from work. I have really been enjoying them. Some of my favorites are Heartland Knits, Knit me Happy, and SkeinAfterSkein.
SkeinAfterSkein is hosting a virtual Epic Kintalong and Crochetalong for the year on Ravelry. It sounded like fun and it inspired me to get started. So, I am working on knitting my first pair of socks. The pattern is called Hiker Socks. It looked fairly easy and I had some leftover yarn that looked like it would work well enough for me to practice with and see if making socks was something that I would enjoy. I haven’t got that far, but I did take a picture of the beginning. Now to keep working on them and not get distracted.
I was a bad girl over the Thanksgiving Holiday and ordered myself a sewing machine that was on sale. It’s a low end Brother machine, but I have not had a working sewing machine for about 6 years so almost anything will do. It was delivered yesterday and I am so excited. Can’t wait for the weekend so I can play with my new toy. Still need to dig through my UFO’s and pick something to break in the machine with.
Once again I have big plans. After reading so many other crafting blogs, I thought I would start one of my own. I enjoy all types of crafting and I find new inspirations all the time, but time gets away from me and I don’t seem to finish many things. Here’s hoping by documenting my goals and organizing my thoughts that I might accomplish more.
